If you’re looking to upgrade your phone, Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series is a fantastic choice. For years, Samsung’s S series phones have been the unofficial face of Android and have earned the reputation of being one of the best choices in the smartphone market.

At the time of writing, Samsung’s latest entries into the smartphone market, the S24 series, have been receiving rave reviews. Well-known reviewers, like Tom’s Guide, call the newest entries into the Galaxy S-series fantastic and “among the best Android phones” out there.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series of phones was revealed during the company’s Unpacked event on January 17th and officially launched a few weeks later on January 31st. Samsung’s S24 lineup includes the base S24 model, the S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra.

The S24 lineup of phones also includes more than just the typical processor upgrade that comes with a new generation of devices. Each new Galaxy S24 mode received new updates, design tweaks, camera specs, and the leading upgrade—artificial intelligence.

When it comes to upgrading your phone, it’s understandable that you may have hesitations. Yearly upgrades can be hard to keep up with, but buying refurbished is a great way to shave down costs while still experiencing the latest technology.

Even the latest phone models, like the S24, are now available to be refurbished. Buying refurbished is also a great idea if you’re looking for an eco-friendly shopping option and want to contribute to sustainable practices.

Why The Samsung S24 Phones Are Great

Samsung’s latest addition to the Galaxy S series was immediately met with positive reviews from day one. It’s a great addition not only to Samsung’s phone range but also to the Android ecosystem. They’re great for a range of reasons, including:

  • Stunning AMOLED displays offer high-resolution screens, vibrant colours, and 120Hz refresh rates.
  • Samsung’s One UI. It’s a clean and accessible user interface that receives frequent updates with rich customisation options.
  • Samsung’s Knox security is known for being industry-leading in mobile security.
  • Samsung’s range of S24 devices also features seamless integration with Samsung’s other devices, like smartwatches, and the wider Android ecosystem.
  • The S24 phones are equipped with the latest Snapdragon or Exynos chipsets (depending on the region) for top performance.
  • The S24 lineup of Galaxy devices also features artificial intelligence-powered tools.
  • Samsung’s Galaxy S24 line features some of the best high-end cameras available in the Android ecosystem. It is perfect for hobbyists or professionals.

Samsung S24 Ultra Features

The Samsung S24 Ultra is the model if you’re looking for a premium experience out of the newest Galaxy range lineup. We’ve listed the specifications below:

  • Display: 6.8-inch screen powered by Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X.
  • Build: Glass front (Corning Gorilla Armor), glass back (Corning Gorilla Armor), titanium frame.
  • Operating System: Android 14, up to 7 major Android upgrades.
  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
  • GPU: Adreno 750
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Storage: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options
  • Camera: Quad-camera set-up featuring 200MP (wide), 10MP (telephoto), 50MP (periscope telephoto), and 12MP (ultrawide)

Extra features supported by the 24 Ultra model include Samsung DeX and the S Pen functionality. The main improvements the Ultra has over the S24 Plus model are the S Pen support, a larger screen, better cameras, and bigger storage options.

Samsung S24 Plus Features

The Samsung S24 Plus is a great choice if you’re looking for a larger phone than the base S24 model or want to squeeze out more performance. Below, we’ve outlined the specifications for the S24 Plus model.

  • Display: 6.7-inch screen powered by Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X.
  • Build: Glass front (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), glass back (Gorilla Glass Victus 2), aluminium frame.
  • Operating System: Android 14, up to 7 major Android upgrades.
  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (Exynos 2400 in Australia)
  • GPU: Adreno 750 (Xclipse 940 in Australia)
  • RAM: 12GB
  • Storage: 256GB & 512GB options
  • Camera: Triple-camera set-up featuring 50MP (wide), 10MP (telephoto), and 12MP (ultrawide)

The major differences between the S24 Plus are the chipset (in some regions), build quality, and cameras. It also lacks the S Pen functionality. In Australia, the S24 Plus features the Exynos 2400 chipset, while the S24 Ultra features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 worldwide. The S24 Plus also doesn’t offer 1TB internal storage options.

The glass used for the front and back of the S24 Plus is also an older Gorilla Glass version. However, despite the difference in chipsets, the S24 Plus features similar performance to the Ultra model. It is a cost-effective choice if you’re just looking for power.

Which S24 Is Best For You?

Ultimately, which S24 model is best for you will come down to a few factors. We recommend considering your specific needs, preferences, and budget. Below, we’ve outlined how the factors may impact the decision.

Price

One of the biggest differences between the S24 models, including refurbished devices, is the price. The Galaxy S24 base model still offers a premium experience but is the entry-level option in the lineup of devices.

The Galaxy S24 Plus is the mid-level entry into the S24 lineup. It offers an upgraded screen with more screen real estate than the base model. It also has better battery life than the base model, but it isn’t as good as the Ultra.

The S24 Ultra is the most expensive model, packed with cutting-edge features. If you’re looking for a high-end experience and the best Samsung has to offer, along with a large screen, the S24 Ultra is perfect.

Display Size

If the size of the screen is important to you, each model in the S24 lineup offers a different viewing experience. The base S24 features a 6.2-inch screen, whereas the S24 Plus has a 6.7-inch screen, and the S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display.

The resolution is also different for the base S24 model versus the Plus and Ultra models. The base version features FHD+ resolution, while the Plus and Ultra models support QHD+.

If you want a device that fits into your pocket and you prefer smaller phones, the base model is ideal. If you want a larger screen for multitasking and entertainment, the Plus or Ultra is a better choice.

Performance

The S24 phone lineup offers some of the best performance currently available in the Android ecosystem. Both the base and the Plus S24 models offer the same level of performance, perfect for heavy multitasking, gaming, and everyday use.

If performance is your top priority, the S24 Ultra model comes with more RAM and storage options. If you want the best performance when multitasking and gaming and you’re willing to spend more, the Ultra is perfect.

Battery Life

Another important factor to consider is the battery life the different models offer. If you’re someone who is out for extended periods of time without the option to charge your device, the Ultra or Plus versions might be ideal. They feature a bigger battery capacity, perfect for workers, travellers, and heavy media consumers.
