What We Know About the Samsung Galaxy S24

With the release date of Samsung’s 2024 flagship quickly approaching, rumours are in the air about the Samsung Galaxy S24. Leakers, inside info and user speculation, have fuelled stories of powerful generative AI, split chipset-powered performance and surprising social media shortcuts. Expectations are high, and Samsung lovers are likely to have multiple models to choose from. While we know very little for sure, the information that has become public promises big changes and great features.

Of course, Samsung Galaxy’s S23 is a hard act to follow. Since its launch in February 2023, the popular Samsung Galaxy S23 series has filled an important spot in the smartphone market. It’s won praise and positive reviews for being a small yet powerful flagship smartphone with a bright screen and impressive camera capabilities. Talk of the Samsung S24 has focused heavily on how the smartphone brand plans to outdo itself with this new contender.

Here’s the OzMobiles guide to what we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy S24: both what has been confirmed and what we hope is true. It turns out there’s a lot to be excited about with the Samsung Galaxy S24, whatever surprises the release date brings.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Release Date and Price Predictions

The Galaxy S24’s release date is rumoured to be earlier in 2024 than the S23’s was in the previous year and earlier than anticipated in general. According to Korean news site The Elec, Samsung may be launching the S24 line on January 17. While Samsung is likely to unveil other devices at the same launch, the spotlight will very much be on the Galaxy S24.

While the price is still up in the air, Twitter/X tipsters have chimed in with their own takes. While it’s reasonable to assume Samsung will keep its phones at their present price points of $799, $999 and $1,199, others have predicted price jumps of between $50 and $200. There’s speculation that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will start from anywhere between $1,199 and $3,399 in price.

S24 Design and Display

Assuming that Samsung will stick with its tried and true three-part S lineup, it’s safe to assume the Galaxy S24 will be available in 6.1-inch, 6.6-inch and 6.8-inch models. While leaker Tech_Reve claims the S24 and S24 Plus will maintain the same designs as the S23, Samsung has never backed away from innovation or rested on its laurels. There’s no way to know what kind of changes the brand may have in store.

Let’s start with something simple: the colours. Leaker Ross Young posted that the Galaxy S24 will be available in vibrant yellow and violet colours as well as in black and grey.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra could have one of the brightest displays you’ve ever seen on a smartphone, with a peak brightness of 2200 nits. Slimmer bezels and a larger battery are among the other possible changes that multiple leakers have put forward. The Galaxy S24 may also abandon the curved display of its predecessor for a flat screen, according to leaker Ice Universe.

S24 Cameras

Cameras are a supremely important feature on any smartphone and Samsung is renowned for them, with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra one of the best camera phones of 2023. Considering that the cameras on the Galaxy S23 are brilliant, it shouldn’t be too much of a letdown that Samsung probably won’t change its features that much for the S24. If it ain’t broke, as the old saying goes. However, according to some leakers, the company may have minor modifications like changes to sensor size or telephoto lenses in the works.

Photography lovers, influencers and avid social media posters may be in luck as the Samsung Galaxy S24 is rumoured to allow Instagram access even when the screen is locked. This Samsung/Instagram collaboration feature will mean you can whip out your smartphone and capture the moment at lightning-fast speed before it passes you by. You can apparently take advantage of this feature just by turning on the shortcut to the Instagram camera function in the smartphone’s settings.

S24 Specs and Performance

Wireless technology company Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in October 2023, and this chip is expected to power the Samsung Galaxy S24. With a 30% performance boost from its CPU and 25% faster GPU graphics rendering, it looks set to give the Samsung Galaxy S24 a level-up from the already gutsy S23 line. In fact, a report from China has stated that this chipset has a 50% faster GPU than the Galaxy S23’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

There’s talk that the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus models will offer 12GB of RAM instead of the 8GB of S23 models. Another leaker has confirmed this while stating that the Ultra model could come with a full 16GB.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is also expected to come with 128GB of storage for the standard model, in line with the S23.

S24 AI Features

Samsung looks set to boost its artificial intelligence capabilities with its own generative AI system: Samsung Gauss. This new tech apparently has the power to make your life easier in a number of ways, like summarising documents, translating content and helping you to write e-mails.

According to Samsung, its Gauss technology is named after Carl Friedrich Gauss, a well-known mathematician who pioneered normal distribution theory – the theory that lies behind machine learning and AI. Samsung has already reported that Gauss is being used internally to boost employee productivity and that it will be available in a range of Samsung products from early 2024.

There are three core elements to Samsung Gauss that are currently used internally and that will soon enrich the experience of Samsung Galaxy S24 buyers in 2024. Gauss Language crafts convincing responses to human language, Gauss Code assists in developing coding software, and Gauss Image allows you to create and modify images.
